Thank you Dawn! Good point – our spirituality is enhanced by using our senses, not inhibited by them. I am playing around with choosing one to focus on at a time and see if that goes deeper than focusing on two or more at a time and if that is a learned skill. I think that becoming numb isn’t the real goal in spiritual teachings. For example, in some philosophies such as certain meditation techniques, we are taught to shut down our 5 “main” senses to enhance our 6th sense for a period of time. I am trying to explore these ideas further. Also, I think some teachings are aimed at healing and mastering certain sensory addictions in favor of becoming more balanced and whole so we can move on from them. You got me thinking over here Dawn!

Taste! Taking time to taste what I eat has made a huge difference. The appreciation I have for my food has changed and not eating the food I shouldn’t is easier. I mean come on —actually tasting a McDonalds burger is enough to make you reconsider. I also eat less when I am paying attention to the act of eating.

wow! I immediately connected to Sight and Smell, remembering that I have gotten out of the habits of burning candles or incense, and surrounding myself with beauty. Working entirely from home can let you get cluttered if you’re not careful.
