Spiritual Practices to Feed the Soul!

Strengthening your connection with Spirit and keeping this connection open, aligned, and radiating peace, joy, health, and vitality – both inward and outward from your being – can be the intention of an ongoing practice.

What is Spirit?

Spirit (dictionary):

1. The vital principle or animating force within living beings.
2. A fundamental emotional and activating principle determining one’s character.
3. The soul, considered as departing from the body of a person at death.
4. The Holy Spirit.
5. The part of a human associated with the mind, will, and feelings.
6. The essential nature of a person, group, or living thing.
7. A supernatural being.
8. An inclination or tendency of a specified kind.
9. A causative, activating, or essential principle.
10. A particular mood or an emotional state most often characterized by vigor and animation.
11. To impart courage, animation, or determination to.
12. God, especially when regarded as transcending material limitations.
13. The influence of God or divine things upon the soul.
14. The intended meaning of a communication.
15. Animation and energy in action or expression.
16. The immaterial intelligent or sentient part of a person.
17. Vital essence.
18. To encourage, urge on, or stir up.

Wow! These are just some definitions of Spirit according to the dictionary. The definition of Spirit differs according to religious and personal beliefs. Spirit is also sometimes known as an individual’s highest self or consciousness.

Recognizing What Feeds Your Soul

Contemplate the following questions:

What makes your heart sing?

What makes you feel at peace with yourself and the world?

What makes you feel Joyful to your core?

What makes you feel light and free?

What makes you feel content and fulfilled?

What makes you feel energized and alive?

Take a few minutes and make a list of your answers. Do you see any patterns or common themes in your list? Which activities do you engage in on a regular basis? Where can you fit more of these into your life?

Just by thinking of these things you are raising your vibration, nourishing your Soul, and connecting with your Spirit. Physically and intentionally engaging in these activities on a daily basis ever widens and deepens this connection.

Making time for and prioritizing these activities is deeply rewarding. A little bit goes a long way!

Spiritual Practices That Raise Your Vibration

Your above list may or may not contain activities that are traditionally thought of as spiritual in nature.

What helps us feel spiritually connected? What proven Spiritual Practices raise our vibration?

Borrowing from many branches of spiritual thought, the following list is a compilation of practices designed to help you identify activities that support and nourish your unique being. This list is by no means complete; feel free to use it as a jumping off point to your own inner knowing of what is best for you, and to awaken your memory of practices that have resonated with you during your lifetime!

The Practices

  • Meditation/Prayer – any form, coming from a place of faith and gratitude, as opposed to a place of begging and lack.
  • Mindful Movement – yoga, martial arts, mindful walking, tai chi, qi gong, trance dancing, etc.
  • Sacred Self-Care – ritual cleansing, proper nutrition, adequate sleep, practicing moderation, taking care of your holistic health, being mindful of mind-body-spirit needs, etc.
  • Visualization – holding positive images, spiritual symbols, or archetypes/deity yoga.
  • Being True to Yourself – keeping peace with yourself, being authentic to your True Self, taking time to be with yourself and listen.
  • Being of Service – volunteering, helping one another, being of service in whichever way that shows up for you, sharing your personal gifts, and dedicating each day to the Spirit within, above, and throughout, is a powerful spiritual practice that can be brought to your unique situation.
  • Releasing Negativity, Limiting Beliefs, and Negative Thought Patterns – build an aura of positivity in your life by nullifying negativity as it shows up. This raises vibration and helps to see the good in everything, revealing natures true Spirit.
  • Daily Gratitude Practice – spiritual practices don’t make good things happen to us, but rather, allows the universe an open channel through which our good can come to us – give thanks and cultivate appreciation for all the good that enters our lives. The more time we take to recognize the good in our lives, the more good we see.
  • Reading Inspirational Literature – can be “religious” or not, as little as 5 minutes a day can work wonders in your life and be spiritually uplifting.
  • Attending Spiritual Gatherings – surround yourself with like-minded (or should I say like-hearted), spiritually uplifting people raises the collective vibration of the group and can intensify and enhance your personal spiritual connection and growth.
  • Energy Practices for the Senses – one can use the following with intention to enhance, support, or connect with spiritual work: incense/aromatherapy, body/energy work, breath work, crystals/stones, color therapy/natural light, travel/new experiences, music/sound therapy/chanting, art/creating/writing, and other work that supports the Mind, Body, and Spirit can be integrated into a Spiritual Practice that rocks!
  • Love! – Love yourself, your fellow man, your enemy, your family, your friends, your planet, the animals, all living beings, keep love in your heart, forgive, and cultivate compassion.
  • Respect Nature – this is one of the most ancient spiritual practices and can be cultivated through respectful time in nature, paying attention to and celebrating the cycles of nature, supporting wildlife, helping the planet and different ecosystems to stay healthy, reducing our footprint on the land, and working together to raise our awareness on the interconnectedness of all things.

Finding the things that make your heart sing and raise you up is truly golden. Different activities will find your path in different points in your life and will ebb and flow according to what your Spirit needs at that time. Developing and evolving a regular spiritual practice that radiates energy and light through your life is a game changer.

Take some time to check in with yourself and set the intention to make the activities that speak to you a regular part of your day in the way that works best for you.
